Pre Delay

in
  • when using Reverb, well CHosen Pre Delay Results in a More Clear Distinction between Source and Room
  • Pre Delay Shorter than 30ms will No More be Perceived as 2 Sounds, i.e. Our Ear can Not Hear a Pre Delay Effect
  • Instruments that are Closer Use Longer Pre Delays and Instruments that are More Far Away Use Shorter Pre Delays
  • i.e. the Longer the Distance Between the Sound Source and the Reflected Surfaces the Longer to Takes for the Instrument to Travel to the Wall and then Reflect Back
  • e.g. Strings are Closer to the Listener but Far from the Walls
  • on Strings Aim for 50ms to 80ms, on Woodwinds / Harp / Keys Aim for 40ms to 50ms, on Brass Aim for 30ms to 40ms
  • Strong Attacked Percussion Needs a Bit More Tweaking as the Pre Delay May Create Another Attack with Settings Above 30ms, i.e. Generally if there is a Unwanted Slap Reduce the Pre Delay to 30ms or Below
  • Notice that Pre Delay at Zero will Crush the Clarity of the Attack a Bit as well as Push the Sound More to the Back (which can be Desired or Not)
