– Slides Occur between Notes when Connect Legato Notes (Due to the Nature of Changes in Finger Positioning)
– i.e. Depending on the Lines a String Player has to Play, they can Not stay Always at “Normal Position” Due to Runs, Octave Bends, Key Changes on Strings etc.
– so for the “Right” the Amount of Sliding to the “Wanted Key”, a Player has to Feel & Listen Exactly where he Lands (or Starts)
– Portamento is Not Equal to Pitch Bend between the Notes
– It is a Slope that’s Applied between 2 Intervals that are Played on the Keyboard and it Generates Smooth Pitch Sliding
– as you would Pluck a String on the Guitar and move your Hand Down the Neck to Slide to a Different Note (which is also a Discrete Glissando)
– Portamento should Not be used Too often and Treated Too Obvious
– A MIDI controller doesn’t have to have Portamento, but a Good Vst Instrument Should have Portamento Features
