Reverb Types Typical Applications

  • Medium Room = Depth Without Too Much Reverb Decay, for Drums / Piano / Strings / Synth
  • Non Linear / Gated = Presence to Backbeats and Kicks Without Getting in the Way
  • Plate = Artificial and Not Meant to Simulate Real Rooms, Simulated Medium to Long Plate for Vocal, Add High End in Plate for Vocal Shimmer Effect, Short Plate for Snare, In General for Snare / World Percussion / Horns / Pads / Cello, also Vocals Thanks to the Quick Response of the Reverb and the Way Plates Handle Early Reflections 
  • Spring = Color to Sounds, Often on Electric Guitar, also fro Dub / Reggae Especially on the Rim Shot
  • Convolution = Mimic Classical Hardware with Impulse Responses
  • Chamber = Medium Sized Closed Off Spaces, e.g. Corridor or Stairwell, Realistic Type of Reverb, Chamber Reach a Maximum Density Very Quickly which can Result in a Build-Up in the Bass Frequencies (thus Roll Off Low End), Good for Drums / Percussion and Vocals
  • Hall = Long Propagation Time, i.e. Takes the Reverb a Long Time to Travel from 1 Point of the Simulated Hall to to the Other, thus Not Suited for Drums/Percussion, Good for Horns / Pads / Violins / also Vocals
