1) Match Up Tones/Root/Key
2) Check Decay of Kick, How Long the Kick is
- Shorter Decay = Less Bottom but More Room
3) Check Decay and Release Time of Bass, How Long the Bass Sound is and How Long it Takes to Fade Out
- Shorter Decay = Less Bottom but More Room
- Shorter Release = Less Bass but More Room
- i.e. Do the same with with Bass-Sound as with the Kick and Compensate Each to the Other
3) EQ Boost with Narrow Peak the Bass where the “Boom” Character is
– Manage Tail of Subs Beside the Decay / Release Settings
- can give you more Punch but can also “Over-Bass” a Mix and Notice that also Resonances Increase
4) Boost Kick Around 70-80 Hz and Dip Around 240Hz Mark
5) Notch the Kick where the Spectrum Analyser Shows a Lot of Lows (e.g. 60-75Hz).
- also Notch the Bass at that Same frequency but Add a Little After Notched Frequency (e.g. at 120Hz – 130Hz when at 60Hz-75Hz)
6) Add Distortion or Overdrive to Bass and / or Kick
- i.e. Saturate Low Basses so they Come Through Small Speakers as Well
– when you Use a Harmonic Exciter it is a Good Idea to Look at a Spectrum Analyzer and See if there are Any Dips and this is Where you Could Add Harmonics
- e.g. you can Use a Multiband Saturator and then Only Saturate the Mid Range of the Kick
7) SC Kick vs Bass for Further Separation
8) Limit Bass at the End of Chain
- Optionally Group Bass and Kick and Limit them Together
