General
– Sometimes the Ear Needs a Rest of Same Pitches Appearing for a Long Time
– a Pleasant Transition can be Made by Transposing the Top Voice to a Chord Up by a Semitone
– the Trick is when Transposing with a Note Outside the Main Key, you Must Resolve with a Semitone
Example C Major to A Minor
1) Play a C Major Chord
– the Top Voice is a G and we Transpose via G# Before we Move to A Minor
2) When Transposing with a Note Outside the Main Key, the Trick is to Resolve with a Semitone
– i.e. from a C Major Chord you Replace Top Voice G with a Semitone which is G#, then Transpose to “A Minor”
3) So All in All this Means from / to:
a) C-E-G (C Major)
b) C-E-G# (C Augmented)
c) C-E-A (A Minor / 2nd Inv)
4) But you can Use any Chord as Long as it has an “A” in it
– e.g. F Major (F-A-C)
a) C-E-G (C Major)
b) C-E-G# (C Augmented)
c) C-F-A (F Major / 1st Inv)
