Legato

in
  • a Horn or String Player can Go from One Note to the Next Note Without Stopping to Play (Notes are Connected)

  • i.e. Go from One Note to the Next Note Not by Starting by Starting a New Note with a New Breath or Starting a New Note with a New String Position, but Instead by Keeping the Same Breath (Horn) or Same Position (String) Going and Just Changing the Note

  • so as Long as Notes are Connected and you Do Not Interrupt the Playing Any Note Change will Appear in Legato Fashion, if Notes Do Not Overlap it is Non-Legato and Each Note has Its Own Attack (i.e. a New Breath and a New Attack is Used)

  • Certain Sample Libraries can Mimic Legato with Either Recorded Legato Samples or Implemented that Technique via Scripting

  • in Order to Apply Legato in the DAW the Notes Must Overlap and the DAW Requires You to Place the Notes a Little Earlier in Order to Make the VSTi Know that it Should Perform in Legato (i.e. Slightly Before Grid)

– also the Note Overlap Time May have an Influence of How the Legato Sounds

– also Remember that Legato Performance is Usually Based on Single Notes (Monophonic Performance), i.e. when Performing Chords You Do Need to Instant Another VSTi (Unless the VSTi has Legato Feature Even for Chords)
