Béla Bartók Approach

in

General

– Repeats “Eastern Melodies” that are by Nature Closer Together (Adjacent Keys)

– Plays on Every “One” a Slightly Different Chord as an Accompany, Either through Re-Harmonisation or Chord Change

– for Example Hungarian Mode = C, D, Eb, Gb, G, Ab, B, C (same as Harmonic Minor but with a Raised 4th)

– the Listener will accept different Emotional Responses while Chords change slightly but Melody stays the same as Foundation

Practical Example

1) Search for 2 Melody Patterns with a “Q & A” Feeling (Count as 1 Pair or Phrase)

2) Play along 2 Chords, 1 for the “Q” Melody and 1 for the “A” Melody

3) Repeat same Melody

4) But change each Chord along

5) Use that Technique and Create New Pairs of “Q & A” with slight different Melody Lines

6) These Pairs build the Foundation of the Song (can also be Re-Placed / Ex-Changed later on)

7) Try “Shy” Changes respective Decrease Amount of Notes to keep Tension or more Chord Changes / Melody Notes for more Storytelling

8) Listen to Bartok “For Children II / 12” Example where 4 Pairs content Twice the same Melody but 2 different Chords to create different Emotional Responses

Bartok Pairs

1) Build 2 Melody Lines with a “Q & A” Feeling as the Melodic Foundation of the Song

2) 4 Pairs each content Twice the same Melody but 2 different Chords along

3) Repeat that Technique and Create further “Q & A” Pairs with slight Different Melody Lines
