  • thus you have to Bring the Overtones / Harmonics to Match the Customers Listening Level so He can Enjoy the Full Spectrum while Still Preserve the Dynamics
  • in Order to Match Physical Integrity we Need Compression and Optionally Overtone Generators

  • To Solve Above “Home Listener” Problem you have to Increase Perceived Loudness so the Harmonics are Higher
  • First in the Recording Phase, then in Mixing Phase and Finally in Mastering

Pre Mixing

1) Record with Good Tube Microphones and / or Use Tube Pre Amp or Tube Post Tools

2) Tape, Compresses Dynamic Range but Again Increases Perceived Loudness even More

– Notice that you can of Course Use Tape in the Mixing Process Since we are No More Using Tape to Record Things onto

3) The Rest has to Come in Mixing

1) Mostly Use of Compression and Saturation Tools

– also Tape Compression when Not Used as Recording Instance

Compressing Snare for Physical Integrity

1) Use a Fast Compressor (e.g. 76) and Start with 4:1, Rather Slow Release and Medium Attack for Gorgeous Snare or Fast Release for Snappy Snare

2) Often for Snare and Bass a Bigger Ratio is Better, e.g. 12:1 on a 76

3) Follow Up with Rather Slower 2nd Compressor Such as LA-2A, Try One that also Adds High Frequencies

4) Add Saturation Tool Such as Decapitator

5) Compensate Lost High end Due to Compression with a 73 EQ by Increasing Mid and High Band a Bit

6) Same Process Counts for Kick
