General
– the Idea is to have the Music in the Middle and the Effects on the Side
Workflow
1) Make a Mix, Dry with as Little Masking as Possible and Collapse to Mono
– i.e. Either Mix in Mono, LCR or Collapse the Stereo Mix to Mono
2) Use 2 Mono Reverbs Placed Very Left and Very Right, or a 3rd Reverb Placed in the Centre (Quasi LCR Mono Reverbs)
– Make 1 Reverb Sound e.g. a Little Brighter / Longer vs the 3 Darker / Shorter
- i.e. Make Them Contrasting / Different so they will Sound Wider
3) Add 2 Mono Echoes (or Very Little Spread Stereo Echoes) and Pan Them Very Left and Very Right with 1 at Around 120ms and the Other at 90ms, or 60ms vs 90ms (but Not Too Short to Avoid Comb Filtering / Metallic)
– i.e. Use Echo as Reverb Not Necessarily (Long) Traditional Echoes
– Bandpass Them to the Core Midrange Areas (or Highpassed but Not Lowpassed)
4) Now Decide which Instrument Goes to which Reverb / Echoes and which to Either the L, C or R Position
– Rather Equal Send Amount (Measures)
