3 Parts of Reverb Basics

in

1) Direct Sound = Sound Coming from the Sound Source Directly to Your Ears

2) Early Reflections = Hits 1 or More Surfaces and then Comes Back to Your Ears, Die Off Pretty Quickly

  • the Primary Way Humans Understand Distance from the Direct Sound
  •  i.e. Depending on How Soon They Come and How Loud The are we can Tell How Close or Far Something is
  • Usually from 7ms to 100ms After the Direct Sound
  • Early Reflections are Often Barely Even Heard, it is More a Sense of Closeness to the Listener

– Pre Delay is Quasi the Difference between the Direct Sound and the Early Reflections in Terms of the Time Delay between the 2

3) Late Reflections = Characteristic Wash Sound that People Hear and Perceive as the Reverb

– i.e. Everything that Comes After Early Reflections (After 100ms)
