Collected Mastering Tips 3

– Remove any Unwanted Noise, Clicks etc. in the Mix, you will definitely Hear those Imperfections when Mastering (which can make a Track Unusable)

– also Reduce Frequency Build Ups that are Not the Main Focus of the Song in the Mix (Before Mastering)

– Leave Silence Before and After the Track, i.e. 2-8 Bars so any Process as Delays, Reverbs etc. is Really Finished (Notice that this Must be Done in DAW when Render / Bounce the a Track definitely Down)

– Always Remember, with any Process of a Signal (Plugin) the Sound Gets more and More Fragile (so any Process Should be Done with a lot of Care)

– Always Bounce the Mixdown for the Mastering in the Format you are Working with (Specific Project Settings)

– When Filtering Out Non-Relevant Frequencies of a Sound, the EQ Filter Should be the First Process in your Chain (before Compressor or Effects)

– Multiband Compressors are useful to Control Sub Frequencies

– a Well Dynamic Range is about 10-12dB for Live Feeling, Lower DR will Sound Squashed

– Listen to Left and Right Signal Individually to Better Hear What you are Mixing due to “Un-Equal” Balance of the Left / Right Ear

– if you Set the Ceiling for a Limiter, use -1dB for Lossy Format Master (Mp3 etc.) and -0.1dB for CD Master

– the “Soft Clipper” can Help to Increase Headroom by Crushing “Transients”

– Every Time you Process an Audio Signal it Becomes More Fragile, while Processing is an Important Part of Our Work, the Secret to a Great Sound is often Done by Processing it Right at the First Time”

– i.e. the Best Results are Achieved when Everything that has Been Done so Far, is Done in Top Quality from Start to Here (Regarding Production, Equipment, Recordings etc.)

– if you are Unsure about the Final Result, use Dedicated Meters and Analyzers that Visually Help your Ear (but Trust Your Ears if it Sounds Good)
