Spatial Placement for Orchestra 

1) Start with the Placement of Strings 

2) Place Woodwinds behind the Strings (they do NOT sound in Front of the Strings)

3) Brass on the Back

4) Percussion are the Last (Blue= Timpani)

– Picture based on “Standard” Orchestra Size

– “Violins 1” are basically 2 Players playing 2 Pitches, Top Stand plays High & Below Stand play Low (which also defines the Term “Divisi writing”)

– same for Woodwinds (just less Players)

– Brass Section only has 1 Stand so every Player has its own Part
