- In General, the Kick is often the Thing that Needs to Cut Through All the Time while the Bass can be Sacrificed a Bit
Version 1 Panning
1) Pan All Kicks to -2
2) Pan All Basses +2
Version 2 Counter EQ
1) LC Kick to 22Hz at 12dB with Q of 1, HP Kick to 6330Hz at 12dB with Q of 1
2) Route Kicks to a Group and Dip with Clean EQ at 51Hz -2dB to -3dB with Q of 0.7 to Give Room for the Fundamental of the Sub Bass
3) Route Basses to a Group and Dip with Clean EQ at 81Hz -2dB to -3dB with Q of 3 to Give Room for the Fundamental of the Kick
Version 3 SC
1) Use a Dedicated SC Tool (Wideband or Spectral etc.)
2) Set the Filter in the SC Tool to Only Work Below 100Hz, i.e. Do Not Sidechain the Bass Info Above 100Hz
3) Go Very Easy to Not Sacrifice the Bass Too Much
Version 4 Compress Sub Bass Group
1) Compress Sub Bass Group with 2:1 About 5dB
2) Don’t Use a SC Filter in this Case as the Compressor Should by Purpose React to the Sub Bass First in Order to Tame it and Make it More Consistent
3) Best is to use a Multiband Compressor with a Band Split Around 60Hz, i.e. this will Dynamically Work Better and Only Compresses when the Sub Basses Reach a Certain Threshold
4) Compensate Output Level (About 1dB to 2dB)
