General
- Dithering is a Number Crunching Process that Allows e.g. a 24 Bit File to be Reduced to 16 Bits without Too much Loss of Quality
- Remember that you Do Not Need to Dither when you Export to Mp3 (as Mp3 can Handle a 32 Bit File in Opposite to CD)
- it is Always Better to First Sample Down (i.e. Do the Sample Rate Conversion First) and then Dither to 16bit, Because the Sample Rate Conversion will be More Accurate on the Higher Bit Depth
Dither Types
POW-R1 = Simple Dither with Little or No Noise Shaping, Suited for Voice or Simple Sounds
POW-R2 = Moderate Noise Shaping, Noise will be Shifted into the High Frequency Range, Suited for Pop and General Music
POW-R3 = Strong Noise Shaping, Noise will be Shifted Even More into the High Frequency Range, Suited for Dynamic and Classical Music / Jazz
Apogee UV22HR = Pristine Dithering, Again Noise will be Shifted into Very High Frequency Range with a Special Technique, Suited for Mastering
