Which Mixdown Version is the Best?

in
Table of Contents

General

  • the Truth is All Mixdowns in the Same Session will Sound Nearly the Same, maybe a Little More Reverb here or Less Bass there, but they are Not Really Different

– and be OK with the Fact that You Hear the Things You Hear, that is You and Every New Mix will Likely Sound Very Identical to the Previous (Stop Spending Time on Reset a Mix)

  • Luckily, Still 1 of those Mixes will Pop Out More than the Others, i.e. Grabs Your Attention Emotionally and that is What You Want

Choose the Best Mixdown

1) Check the Groove, i.e. Which Mixdown Grooves the Best?

  • “Groove” is More Important than Anything Else and Delivers Most to the Emotional Impact

– Think About the Big Picture

  • e.g. you can have a Smoother Snare on 1 Mix, but the Mix that Grooves Overall Better Should be Picked as the Best Mixdown

2) Then Listen to the Vocal

  • i.e. Pick the Most Groovy Mix and Be Sure the Vocal Gives Enough Good Moments (Surely Not Horrible Vocals Over the Best Groove)

3) Then Check the Clarity

4) Delete Other Mixes
