Round Robin Mixing

General

• Quasi Keep Moving through 3 Families at a Time and Mix the Family in Patterns Against Each Other

• “Family” means Drums / Bass / Vocals / Guitars / FX / Piano Chords etc.

– “Pattern” means the Combination of Families (e.g. Drums / Bass / Vocals Would be a Specific Pattern, Drums / Bass / Guitars Would be Another Specific Pattern)

• you Should Never Repeat Mixing the Same Pattern and Always Mix the Latest Addition to the Others (Do Not Touch the Already Mixed Family)

– Imagine a Triangle with 3 Families that Moves Around Its Axis and Slowly Converges into 1

Workflow

1) Pick Favorite 3 Elements to Build the Foundation and Mix Them Against Each Other 

– e.g. Mix Drum and Bass Along with Vocals (i.e. Beside Drum and Bass the Element that Plays a Dominant Role in the Song Such as Piano Chords / Rhythm Guitar / Vocals)

2) Now Mute 1 of the Previous Elements but Add a New Dominant Element

– e.g. Mute Drums but Introduce Guitar and Mix with the Guitar Against the Vocals (Along with the Bass)

3) Now Mute 1 of the Previous Elements but Add a New Dominant Element

– e.g. Mute Vocals but Introduce Cello and Mix with the Cello Against the Guitar (Along with the Bass)

4) At Some Point Start Round Robin and Bring Back Elements you have Previously Muted but Without the Setup you Already Did

– i.e. you Already Mixed Drum vs Bass vs Vocals in the First Step, then Try Drum vs Bass vs Piano Chords

5) Keep Moving Through 3 Sounds at a Time but Never Repeat the Same Pattern

– If you Get Stuck, Go Back to a Pattern you Know has Worked and Try Narrow Down the Triangle
