Multiband Compression

General

– a Bunch Of Compressors in a Box that have the Ability to Only Compress a Part of a Signal

– e.g. a Specific Notes Resonance at 73Hz from an Upright Bass is Difficult to Control with a Single Compressor, as you will Compress Automatically Other Areas of the Frequency Spectrum as well 

– also a Dedicated EQ Adjustment will only be Good on that Area, but when the Notes Change this 73Hz Range Gets Attenuated, i.e. Less Fullness

– with a Multiband Compressor you can Say Compress that Resonant Frequency only when it Appears Too Loud

– i.e. a Multiband Compressor can be used to Make a Sound More Even to Serve as a Optimal Foundation for Adding Colours, Vibe  etc.

b) Smooth Out Dynamics Across Frequency Range

c) Enhancement Tricks, e.g. Compress Very Top Frequencies and then Add Back Gain

d) Control Low End

– often a MultibandMaster Preset will 

a) Enhance Boom (20-150)

b) Get Rid of Energy in the Muddy Area (150 – 500)

c) Tame the Medium a Bit (500 – 2000)

d) Add Shine on Top by either Expanding, or Compressing & Raising the Upper Mid and High-End (2000 – 20000)
