1) Analyzer with Average / RMS Reading and Slow Update (Not a Moment to Moment Peak Display)
– i.e. a Spectrum Analyzer that Clearly Sticks to an Overall Spectrum Envelope with a Rather Slow Update Over Time
2) Clean EQ (Nugen SEQ) to Balance Spectrum from Roughly 100Hz to About 5kHz
- i.e. Make a Roughly Flat Line between 100Hz and 5kHz by Either Boosting Weaker Parts and Dipping Louder Parts
- Use a Rather Broad “Q” and No Sharp “Q”
- Do a Slight Downward Slope to the High Frequencies
3) Now you Should have a Rather Big Bump from 100Hz Downwards and a Rather Flat Response from 100Hz to 5kHz
4) Now Flatten Down Things Above 5kHz if you Need to but Do Not Kill Transients
- i.e. Broad and Slight Adjustments from 5kHz to 22kHz
- You can also Aim for a “Smile EQ” for the Top with a Dip (the Lower End of the Smile EQ) at Approx. 800Hz
5) You can Often Afford a Clean Low Cut at 30Hz, Even in Dance Music
- i.e. Even Club Systems Do Not Really Produce Frequencies Below 40 Hz (so you can Safely Put a Low Cut at 30Hz)
6) In EDM, the Loudest Peak Should Always be in the Low Frequency at Around 50Hz/60Hz
– i.e. to Balance the Volume Against the Mid Range / High Range (when Mastered this Low Peak Dances Around -5 to -10 dBFS)
- also Make Sure that Below 40 Hz there is Not More Energy than at 40/50/60 Hertz
