Fader Level vs Low Cut vs Shelf EQ

in

1) If the Vocal Sounds Too Boomy, Don’t EQ it Right Away and Especially Don’t Low Cut it

    2) Instead Ignore Everything Below 500Hz and Try to Level Balance the Vocal Based on You Hear from 1.8kHz to 4kHz

      3) Then Shelve the Too Boomy Vocal, i.e. Shelve Band at 300Kz or 400Hz (Sometimes 500Hz)

      – i.e. Often the Fundamental and the Next Harmonic are Causing the Boomy Vocal Impression

      • Maybe Look at a Spectrum Analyzer and Adjust the Low Shelf so the Boominess is Just Out of the Way

      4) Then You can also Lift the Highs with a High Shelf from 1.8kHz or 2.5kHz or 3.5kHz

      • e.g. the High Shelf Stays Above the Boominess Visually, i.e. Get Your Upper Midrange Up and Over the Lows
