1) Have a Vision Before Starting to Mix
- e.g. Sketch Out Where You Want to Place the Elements
- Below You See a Graph Where Left to Right is Placement in the Stereo Field and Top to Bottom Placement Frequency Wise (i.e. Low Frequency Elements at the Bottom)
2) Some Gain Staging Before Starting the Mix
– e..g. Set the Audio Event Volume Around -6 VU for Percussive Sounds and -12 VU to -18 VU for Sustaining Sounds
– then Set Kick as the Anchor so it Peaks About -15 VU (or -10 VU) and Add Other Elements One by One
3) Avoid Mixing Too Much in Solo
4) Avoid Over-Processing, Over-Compressing and Getting Fooled by Loudness (Optionally Use a Gain Match Plugin Before and After the Chain)
5) Control Spiky Transients, Use Either Compressor (but be Aware that it Alters the Groove), Use a Limiter, or Use a Clipper which May be the Cleanest Way as it Preserves Best the Original Sound / Groove of All 3 Options
6) Not Overdo Reverb, i.e. Use Shared Reverbs in the Form of Sends
7) Reference to a Similar Track but Do Not Aim for Exactly that Sound, Use it Wisely to Calibrate the Ear from Time to Time
8) Listen the Track in Different Rooms / on Different HP / Car / With Other People etc.
