Don’t Listen to What You are Mixing

General

• Try to Listen to Everything Except for the Thing you are Adjusting

• i.e. when You Mix a Snare Sound, Do Not Listen Particularly to the Snare, but Listen to What the Changes on the Snare Does to the Rest of the Mix

Option A

• Take a Specific EQ Band (e.g. Take the High Shelf)

• i.e. you Know you Turn that High Shelf but you Audition the Results on the Whole Mix while Adjusting the High Shelf

• also Learn to Listen What a Change in the High Register Does to the Other End of the Spectrum

• e.g. you Adjust the EQ Band at 1kHz, but What is Happening an Octave Higher at 2kHz and What an Octave Lower at 500Hz

Option B

• Always Focus on 1 Sound Element when Mixing

• e.g. Regardless of the Element you are Currently Mixing, Always Focus on What Happens to the Vocal

• and as in Meditation, Be Careful when you Drift Away from the Target of the Meditation and Re-Focus, i.e. Listen Again to Only the Vocals while Adjusting the Elements
