Method 1
1) Insert an EQ
- Boost High Shelf at Around 4.5 kHz by 1dB to 2dB
- Cut with a Bell Filter between 150Hz and 250Hz with a Q between 1 and 1.5, Max 2.5dB, Take Care to Not Lose the Snare Punch (i.e. Dip Somewhere Else if this is the Case)
- Notice that the Real Low End Sits Below 150Hz, thus if You Feel Like Losing Body Boost Below 150Hz
– Cut with a Bell Filter Around 500Hz with a Q between 1 and 1.5, Max 2.5dB, this is to Make the Vocals Become Clearer, Optionally Do this Only on Instrumental
2) Low Cut the Sides with a 6dB Slope at 20Hz – to 25Hz
3) Compress No More than 1-2dB, Attack at 10ms and Release at 50ms to Retain Detail, Use Lookahead and OS
4) Use Tube or Transformer for 2nd Harmonics and Tape for 3rd Harmonics
5) Try Crosstalk Plugins to Feed 1 Channel into the Other (e.g. Michelangelo)
6) Try a Vintage Pre Amp
7) Try a Reverb with 1% to 2% Mix Wet, e.g. Emulate a Room with a Studio IR
- Decay to Maximal 0.65 Seconds (650ms)
- Isolate the Mids so Only they Go into the Reverb
- Use a Pre Delay of 10ms to 50ms so Transients can Pass Through Without Reverb
– Attenuate the Reverbed Signal from 1.5kHz to 3.5kHz to Keep the Original Signal Drier at that Frequency
8) Use Oversampling in Realtime (Render with Same Oversampling Factor as in Realtime)
Method 2
- Top Down Mix Approach, Typically Used at the Start of a Mix (i.e. to be Mixed into it)
- Notice that it May be Useful to Activate the Limiter a Little Bit (Only -1dB to -2dB) Right from the Start
1) Multiband Compression
2) Enhance Depth, i.e. Front to Back Separation, e.g. Dedicated Reverb or Special Tools (Stage One / SPL Big)
3) Enhance Color, Saturation
4) Enhance Width, i.e. Increase Stereo Width
5) Spectral Balance, i.e. Automatic Tonal Balance Tools (Soothe / Spec Craft / Curves Equator)
6) Low / Mid / High EQ, Usually Pre All Previous Processors, but Optionally Post, Use a Range of Maximal +/- 4dB
7) Ultrasonic and Infrasonic Filters
8) Limiter
9) Optionally Use Wet/Dry Mix Knob on All the Modules
